El Chaltén

El Chaltén is a little town on the Northern edge of Parque Nacional Los Glaciares of Argentina, and sits at the base of Mount Fitzroy and Cerro Torre.

Common treks include those to Laguna de los Tres and Lago Torre to view Cerro Torre and Mount Fitzroy.

Location: 49˚19'44"S 72˚55'48"W
220 km north of El Calafate

Weather: Annual temperatures

Getting There and Away: The nearest commercial airport is at El Calafate, which is served by Aerolíneas Argentinas, LADE and LAN Argentina.

From El Calafate, there are buses to El Chaltén, which takes 3 hours (AR$75 one-way). Private transfers can also be booked out of season.

Accommodation: Possibly the best place to stay in way of comfort, is Los Cerros

La Aldea is a newly-built hotel in town.

Hosteria Posada Lunajuim has also garnered some good reviews, is probably a cheaper option.

Slightly further out from town, is Estancia La Quinta.
